What Happens in Psychotherapy?
Therapy works because the relationship between the therapist and client helps the client by providing information, skills, perspective, and support to charting the client's life course. This relationship exists for the purpose of achieving a common goal: Identifying what will bring the client the greatest possible life satisfaction and charting a course toward that goal. Unlike the relationships each of us has with family and friends, therapists have particular expertise and objective view of the client's particular circumstances. This information and perspective provides the client a positive solutions-focused view toward shaping the client's life to his or her highest satisfaction.

I believe each of us is on a path to fulfilling our highest potential. Sometimes along this path we are faced with very difficult circumstances with which we may not be well-equipped to cope. Sometimes unfortunate messages we received during childhood prevent us from taking bold action; interactions with others have been difficult and hurtful, preventing us from optimally relating to others; or we may have experienced horrific events that shake our confidence in ourselves. For these and many other potential reasons, we sometimes lose our way on becoming our highest and best selves.
Being lost on this path can sometimes cause feelings of anxiety or depression and result in reduced interest or effectiveness in our work and relationships. If you have experienced feelings similar to these, you may benefit from psychotherapeutic work. Together we will formulate goals for realistic and meaningful life changes.
